How we help
As an incorporated association, the Cooroy Rag is a 100 per cent community-owned newspaper and we endeavour it give our profits back to the community in the form of cash grants. Periodically, the Cooroy Rag Community Newspaper distributes community grants to local community groups. If you are interested in grant information for 2025 please contact secretary (at) cooroyrag.com.au for further information.
Supporting our community
The Cooroy Rag also supports the community it represents in other ways. In 1981, a tragic accident in Cooroy Creek claimed the lives of Derek Lange, 11, his mother June, 30, Shayne Parker, 9, and Ricky von Blanckensee, 18. Decades later, the Cooroy Rag advocated for a memorial to honour them. Local groups, including the Cooroora Woodworkers Club, Noosa Council, and community members, collaborated to install a timber bench with a plaque at the woodworkers’ clubhouse overlooking Cooroy Creek. The memorial was unveiled on April 1, 2023, serving as a place for remembrance and a tribute to the lives lost on that fateful day.
